Unboxing Ollie’s
I received my package of Ollie very early in the day; I quickly opened the box and all of the food was VERY cold, which is always nice to see given the heatwave we were in. Ollie’s box and marketing materials are similar to The Farmer’s Dog – both have very cute and creative sayings stamped on the box. It really adds to the unboxing experience and makes it fun.
In addition to the 14 days worth of food in my initial order, there was a welcome packet containing detailed feeding instructions, an AWESOME rubber lid to cover the pre-portioned containers (we absolutely love their packaging – more on this below), and a complimentary bag of probiotic supplements to help make the transition to fresh dog food.
Just from the unboxing experience alone, you can tell that the food is made with care and out of human-grade ingredients. Let’s see if the rest of their features and services continue to meet our already high standards.
Ollie’s Dog Food Recipe Review
Ollie’s dog food recipes are specially formulated with care. Their meals contain high-quality ingredients such as butternut squash, sweet potato, peas, lentils, kale, blueberries, and more in their delicious fresh food. Below is an overview of their recipes.
Beef Recipe
Sweet potatoes, peas, and rosemary hug the fresh beef giving it a succulent taste. Feeding your dog this delicious meal every day will keep him fuller for longer and incredibly satisfied.
Turkey Recipe
The turkey recipe is an antioxidant-rich Thanksgiving dinner for your pup. It is packed with blueberries and chia seeds that have brilliant cleansing effects on your pup’s body. The pumpkin, carrots, and turkey will keep your dog feeling full of energy all day long.
Chicken Recipe
The classic chicken pot pie inspires ollie’s chicken dish. Spinach and cod liver oil are the star ingredients in this dish that promote a healthy heart and will boost your pup’s iron levels.
Lamb Recipe
The Lamb recipe is ideal for dogs with allergies. This nutrient-dense meal contains cranberries, kale, butternut squash, and of course, succulent lamb.
Ollie’s Quality And Ingredients
Ollie really prides itself on making use of high-quality ingredients and believes that proper nutrition is the key to a long life for our pets. In order to help guarantee that your dog gets the nutrition he or she needs, the folks over at Ollie calculate a number of factors based on your pup’s breed and weight, among other things, and then sets up a customized set of feeding guidelines to match your dog’s nutritional demands perfectly. Their meal plans ensure that your pet gets all of the vitamins and minerals they need without you having to think about it.
In order to help guarantee that every package of food ordered from Ollie’s is ideally suited for your pet, the company employs a number of canine nutritionists who oversee every step of the process. Those nutritionists have also helped to develop new and unique cooking methods that help to lock in nutrients but still preserve the tastes that your pets love, making sure that not only will your pet be healthy, but he will also be happy every time he sees his Ollie box arrive.
Ollie’s texture is definitely more ground up compared to all others we reviewed, including Pet Plate, NomNomNow, and The Farmer’s Dog. With that said, you can still see big chunks of the real food in there, which is not only a reassuring sign that this food is legit, but also because it forces your dog to chew a bit instead of inhaling it!
Ollie foods never contain artificial flavors in any of their doggy meals which gives them a massive thumbs up. They pride themselves in using only the best sources of protein such as turkey liver, chicken, beef and have some yummy lamb recipes too. This is all hormone-free and human-grade meat.
Feeding your dog Ollie’s dog food will also ensure he consumes healthy fish oils, lentils, kale, berries, butternut squash… the list goes on. They have grain-free food on offer too for pups that have sensitive tummies.
Bottom line is that their ingredients are good enough for us, so you can confidently feed your dog Ollie dog food and trust that they will be getting everything they need.
Ollie Wins the Packaging War
If you’re interested in fresh dog food delivery, it means you want the best fresh food for your dog but don’t have the time to make it yourself. And who can blame you! Since you’re recommended to feed your dog twice per day, convenience is a huge factor. Ollie’s creative packaging solution is miles ahead of the rest – here’s what we love:
- Each recyclable pack is very easy to peel – most other brands require scissors or a knife to open
- The included scooper (shown below) is specifically designed to scoop food out of the package, so it gets every last drop
- The dishwasher-safe leftover tray and lid prevents having to use saran wrap for leftovers or tossing it into ziplock bags
Taste Test
Sasha absolutely loves the beef recipe. Whenever she sees me pull one out of the refrigerator, she whines and drools all over the place until I finally give it to her.
She’s officially part of Ollie’s Clean Bowl Club – not a single speck remaining.
What Dog Products do they Offer?
Ollie offers your pup a meal plan using ingredients specific to their needs. They have custom feeding guidelines that are tailored to your furry friend that ensure they aren’t ever over or under eating. The amount of food your dog has in a meal depends on their size, breed and other important factors.
Ollie Dog Food Cost
The starting price is about $2 per day for little dogs. It is important to state that the price differs from dog to dog depending on their specific needs.
How To Get Started
Ollie doesn’t currently offer any kinds of samples, but they do give curious pet parents 50% off your first box. For those that do decide to take that step and order a box, the signing up process begins with a series of questions that allow the company to get the best feel for what your pet needs. Everything from dog breed to whether or not your four-legged friend has been spayed or neutered is taken into account before users select what kinds of food their pet is currently eating (dry, wet, raw, home-cooked, etc).
From there, the site goes on to ask what your pet’s favorite protein is and then checks for any allergies. Once this is all entered into the system, the website then calculates a meal plan and gives the user a recommendation, as well as a series of other options to choose from based on what they think would be the best fit for their pet.
You can also select how often you would like the food to be delivered, with three different options available (All Ollie, with 28 meals every two weeks, Mostly Ollie, with 21 meals every 2 weeks, or Some Ollie, with 28 meals every 4 weeks). As an added bonus, the company offers free shipping as well, a tipping point which just might lure in some pet parents offset by the high prices associated with many other delivery services.
Finally, after setting everything in motion, the prepackaged meals come ready to eat right to your door. And as one final perk, the company also provides users with a resealable tray lid and a custom serving scoop, to help guarantee that the right amount of food goes into your pet’s bowl every time.
Ollie Dog Food Recall History
Looking at a company’s recall history can be a great indicator of how organized and sanitary they are. To our surprise, Ollie’s hasn’t recalled a single product as far as we know.
How to Order
First, you will need to create an account on myollie.com. You will then be asked a series of questions about your dog such as their sex, breed and age. Ollie uses the data you provide to create your dog a special meal plan to get them to their ideal weight.
Once you have entered all of your dog’s data on their website, Ollie’s automated system will show you a list of recipes out of the turkey, lamb, chicken or beef options that they have. Choose one of the options and checkout.
It is a rather self explanatory ordering system that will take about 10 minutes from start to finish. We recommend taking your time and being accurate when answering the questions.

Q&A with the Ollie team
We had the privilege to sit down with Ollie’s executives to hear a little bit more about their company and where they see the fresh dog food industry to be in a few years. Take a read through to learn a little more about their vision.
Q: Where is Ollie dog food made?
A: Ollie’s fresh food is made and hand-packed in the USA. We partner with a veterinary nutritionist to formulate our nutritionally-balanced recipes in accordance with AAFCO standards. All of our food is cooked in small batches in our USDA-regulated kitchen.
Q: Where are Ollie Ingredients Sourced?
A: We carefully source our ingredients from reputable farms in the U.S and Australia. Each partner must go through an extensive certification process to become a supplier. All of our food is made only with whole, human-grade ingredients. We never use fillers, by-products, artificial flavors, or preservatives in any of our food. We only use USDA-certified meats in our recipes; our chicken, beef, and turkey all come from farms in the U.S., and our lamb is sourced from farms in both the U.S. and Australia. All of our fruits and veggies are from U.S. farms.
Q: What Sets Ollie Apart From Competitors?
A: We know pup parents have a lot of options to choose from when it comes to feeding their dogs. With a booming pet obesity rate of 56% in the U.S., many brands are stepping up to the plate to provide healthier alternatives to over-cooked, over-processed kibbles. Ollie has taken this a step further by providing a personalized and holistic approach that is beneficial to all dogs but tailored to the needs of your dog.
Ollie is not just about feeding healthy ingredients but offering a nutritionally balanced and properly portioned diet based on a dog’s unique health needs. Each pup parent receives custom feeding guidelines along with their food to help establish a healthy and consistent routine. Starting at $2 a day, Ollie is also one of the most inexpensive options within the fresh dog food space.
Q: What Type Of Growth Do You See The Fresh Pet Food Industry Having?
A: Over the past few years there has been a major shift in the way we think about health and wellness. This new focus has also extended to the pet community as studies become available around the impact of diet on our pets’ wellbeing. Fresh food, in particular, has been shown to extend a dog’s life expectancy by 20%.
Additionally, a fresh diet can help reduce and prevent a wide range of ailments and diseases caused by malnutrition, effectively reducing the financial strain put on pet parents racking up vet bills. This being said, we believe the growth of the fresh pet food industry is just getting started and Ollie will be at the forefront of this movement that places the health and wellness of our pets above convenience.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen a significant uptick in demand for Ollie’s fresh food as safety and reliability become chief priorities for pup parents across the country. Throughout these challenging times, we are focused on continuing to provide high-quality, nutritious food that our community can depend on.
Q: After last year’s DCM findings, why can prospective customers feel confident with your dog food?
A: The 2019 studies that found a potential link between grain-free diets and DCM in dogs shook up the pet food industry for good, but even more so changed the way consumers thought about their dog’s food. While this conversation is much more complex than grain-free vs grains, it does highlight the importance of a balanced diet, something that is already ingrained in Ollie’s mission to provide a nutritionally complete food for dogs.
What is in a dog’s food is just as important as what is not, and Ollie works closely with our veterinary nutritionist to continue to evaluate the nutrient levels in each of our recipes to ensure they provide the proper nutrition for dogs at all life stages. Our pup parents can rest assured that Ollie’s fresh food offers complete nutrition using real, nutrient-dense meat as a primary source of protein along with fresh fruits, and vegetables, plus vitamins, and minerals essential to promoting healthy functions in dogs.
Ollie is proud to have received the highest five-star rating from Dog Food Advisor based on both the quality and safety of our food.
Just don’t try to cancel it. I have been emailing them for 3 months and they just keep charging me. I have made it clear I want to cancel and they just talk about losing all my emails. I am done with this company.
I will not spend anymore time on the phone with them. I cancelled my subscription and they keep on charging me . I will not take the card out and send another email. They will not let you cancell online. Why is that ?? You can sign up on line but not cancel. This is not a reputable nor trustworthy company.
You cannot cancel via email. It says right on the website (that you ordered from) that you must contact Customer Service to cancel. Try that and see if it works.
I bought this food and am not happy with it! I put it in the refrigerator and after a few days the plastic cover bubbled up. I don’t think it’s goid to feed it to the dog. I wAnt a complete refund please!!
I’ve been using Ollie for a year, it used to look like like the images on the website, now it looks like brown sludge that I dont want to feed my dog. Typical example of a company growing and sacrificing quality.
The food arrived all wet and soggy, not frozen like they said it would be. Definitely not risking with food like that. Threw away the whole batch and canceled.
They had a half off first box coupon that enticed me to sign up. Apparently that is only for the “trial” box. I paid $36.79 for the first month and then it went up to $151.66 for the second month. When I called to find out why, they told me the discount is only on the trial box which is $73.58 normally. Their ad did not state anything about the price increasing to $151.66. You have to scroll down to the very last line on their site to access their TOS that states that they can change the price at anytime. My dogs loved the food but this is shady marketing tactics. Don’t fall for it!!
I personally thought the “half off first box” promo was straight to the point. I never assumed I would get half off any subsequent purchases.
Interesting that Woof Whiskers has such a one-sided review to the positive . Would you care to disclose if there is any marketing relationship you have with the company or type of compensation whatsoever?
After using this service for several months, my two dogs gained substantial weight. The vet suggested a diet. I ordered my last shipment with the least caloric intake possible for both dogs. Thinking also I would get less food which as a NYC resident, takes up a lot of my freezer real estate. I received my latest shipment yesterday, which I had extended a full week due to overflow of food in the freezer, and I still have 9 days left. Well, while my Yorkie’s food did come in the usual 2 serving packets, which were smaller, my Chihuahia’s food came in a 8 serving packet, substantially larger and with so much food he would never eat it in 4 days. And they only advise keeping it for four days. Well, after speaking to two reps and a supervisor, they would not admit there had been a mistake in my delivery. So I am stuck with over two months of food, most of which will be thrown out. Please be careful with this company. They clearly do not care about their customers, as they were very quick to let me leave after no helping me with this matter.
I also had problems with the company. No notice of shipment so boxes came when I was out-of-town. Started a subscription when all I wanted was a box to see if dog liked it. Second box came again when I was out-of-town and now Ollie says my email notification went to my spam box. Is that MY problem. No refund. The dog likes the food but Ollie cannot work with you, the pup will need to get another brand.
I put my info in for my Dog a West Highland Terrier, The recommended a Beef based food. I have read not to feed West Highland Terriers beef do to creating skin problems and hair loss
I stopped there and did not order, if they would recommend Beef Based food, they do not know enough to be making Dog Food.
Hi Jon – Not all West Highland Terriers have allergies to beef, so it’s not fair to say all of the breed can not have beef. They can be prone to allergies, just like many other breeds. However you can easily select a chicken recipe or something else.
What is the nutrient analysis of Ollie? You mentioned it on all but this food…ty
Louis, thank you for your comment and apologies for the oversight. We completed the analysis but never updated it into our write-up; we’ll get it added this week.
